Journal Entry 11, 24 Ches
Fishfingers asked us to help with a delivery… Some supplies to a strange tinkering priest of Lathander, Macreadus. Sounds simple enough, the bleak dwarf is safely secured for now and Dzaan let me know he is extending the deadline. So off we go on another long trek through the snow.
We stopped over in Bryn Shander, looking in on Caelum’s mother and talking to Copper, the one that originally asked them to deliver the supplies once they returned from the Cairn. Long way yet to travel. I did get another message in my dreams… A reminder of the importance of dealing with those damned slaver bleak dwarfs. We will get to it. Soon.

GOD DAMMIT! RERE YOU IDIOT! TAKE BETTER CARE OF YOURSELF! This bloody sister will be the death of me. Falling into a gorge. To her death. TWICE. Then taking a cold ray head on instead of using her damn magic to protect herself like she was trained to. I thought I lost her a third time… Does she not understand that I want her to be safe? Do I have to get her out of Icewind Dale?
Urgh. Well we made it to the cabin. The place looked abandoned, snow up against the doors, latrine unused. Some excavation by Caelum showed old schematics used as toilet paper… These magical tinkerers are still crazy. He does seem quite brilliant though. As we attempted to enter the house over the rickety walkway… The walkway gave way. Due to my slow reactions… Rere went over the edge into the gorge… Falling to her death. I flew down to save her, although Caelum’s dragon beat me to it and fed her a potion. I brought the idiot back up and tried to get her rested in the toolshed before we carried on exploring.
We found a corpse inside the main house. Well, more like a skeleton and some ash, along with a burnt book, a broken magical tool of some sort and a holy symbol of Lathander. I attempted to check for magic, assuming some creatures would ambush us… But no, the mundane ended up being Rere’s downfall once more… The floor under her collapsed and she fell to her death. AGAIN. I had no wings left, my mind was broken, I was raging and crying. Without shame. I lost her twice in one day. Do you know how much that bloody hurts???
Caelum found some writing in the ash, asking to retrieve her body. It seems her soul may yet be lingering, but communicating was hard. Her sense of self being lacking must make the veil a bit thick for her to pierce. But at least there was hope. We gathered some sheets and made a rope to retrieve her body as she asked. I wanted to rush her to town, but apparently nobody up in these parts is competent enough to raise the dead. So we tried to figure out what happened. Between the messages from beyond, the schematics and some clever tinkering, we managed to repair this “Weather control device” of this tinkerer. Powerful magic. He really should have kept his redundancies in check. It’s not like he wasn’t warned, we found the letter by Copper telling him to use more rings. Confident idiots are dangerous idiots. He was a brilliant idiot. That magic was crazy. Caelum started casting it as I trusted his power over strange magic more than my own. As he was getting close to completion, Rere stirred, Lathander intervening, but then roars pierced the air.
We were being attacked! Instinct kicking in, I charged out to cover the East, trusting Rere to cover the South. A monstrous fight against zombies… Rere seems to be very well suited to destroying them en masse. She just has to take care of herself more dammit. Caelum finished the spell, dispelling the cold weather for a bit in the area. The creatures sent by… Well most likely by Auril herself… They kept charging trying to stop him concentrating. Then icy light pierced Rere, nearly killing her a third time. At least she is a good fighter. She got her revenge, throwing bolt after bolt of powerful light at the monsters. We made it through. God dammit Rere… You are so awesome... But please stop dying.
Auril herself seemed very upset. From what I know of the gods, the hope we brought to Lonelywood and Termalaine today will likely impact her power quite a bit. Hope is the strongest power we have. We might need to sow more of that.
